How To Stay Fit Without Going To The Gym

By: Amber Hunt, Jun 12th 2020

Even though the gyms are opening back up, I’m sure most of us are a bit nervous about heading back to one so soon. I’ve never been much of a gym rat myself (all of those mirrors kinda freak me out!) so I’ve always found alternative ways to do my best to keep moving. If you’re looking for ideas on how to stay in shape without having to go to the gym, read on!

Fitness Getting your heart rate up without a bunch of gym equipment to choose from can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you have limited space. One thing I have really been enjoying doing from home is fitness videos on my computer. I feel like I’m in one of those funny 80s workout videos, but it gets the job done! I’ve also found that having a fitness tracker, like this 83% off Fitbit, has been really helpful to keep me motivated to get up and move throughout the day. We even have a small under-desk treadmill that can fit in your home much easier than a full-size one! My favorite workout routine that I’ve picked up is yoga. I love starting my day on my yoga mat (even when my dog tries to knock me over!).

Outdoors If you have a smaller space without much room for any equipment, the great outdoors is always a wonderful option! I start all my days (before yoga!) by taking my dog for a 3-mile walk. It’s a great way to get your heart rate up while also getting some fresh air! If you’re a runner, try a hydration backpack or these 59% off shoe lights if you run at night. Of course, hiking is always a very popular option as well. Now that parks are starting to open up again, this is a great workout option, and you can even make a camping trip of it!

Audio Music can be inspiring & motivational when you’re working out! I have always loved music, as I’m sure many of you have, so when I go on walks or runs I never leave without my earbuds! I even listen to podcasts sometimes, so I can learn something while I’m at it. When I’m doing workouts and yoga at home, I have some speakers I use to surround myself in the music! And when I’m lucky enough to enjoy some laps in my friend’s pool, I have some cute little floating waterproof speakers so I can still listen to my jams!

Staying Hydrated We all know it’s important to stay hydrated when working out, something I need to actually be better at myself! If you find water boring, infusing it with fruit is still healthy but makes it even better, and we have a bottle that can do just that for you! If you’d rather not drink out of plastic bottles, this Otterbox tumbler is a fantastic alternative - and sturdy!

Workout Clothes Being comfortable in your exercise clothes is another critical part to a good workout! Making sure you have a good sports bra or tank top will make your workout much better. These active shirts and athletic leggings are both important to add to your wardrobe, too. Of course, having a comfy pair of ankle socks in your shoes doesn’t hurt either! Enjoyable workout clothes are essential!

We know it’s been a tough few months, so work out some energy on the trail, at your home, or even in the yard!
